ASTRION, INC.
Overview
RF Wake Scientist Location: Columbia, Maryland Clearance: Secret Systems Engineering Group, Inc. (SEG) seeks a scientist to support the missile defense community by developing physics-based and statistical radio-frequency (RF) models and algorithms, and cutting-edge data products for ballistic missiles and hypersonic vehicles exhibiting endoatmospheric waking. These tools and products allow customers' high-fidelity radar simulations to include the effects of wake and plasma on radar observations. These efforts support the development and testing of missile defense systems. Responsibilities: Develop physics-based and statistical RF wake and plasma models and algorithms Develop RF signature wake and plasma data products Work with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, subject matter experts, and support staff to deliver products on tight schedules Document algorithms, tools, and data products Contribute to testing and requirements development for RF wake and plasma simulations Present technical work and provide technical expertise at conferences and meetings with customers, collaborators, and competitors Minimum Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen and meet eligibility requirements for a security clearance (see
https://www.dcsa.mil/mc/pv/fso/applicants/
) Bachelors Degree of Science in physics, mathematics, or engineering, with a good GPA Strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills Comfortable working with a variety of computer platforms and languages Strong ability to follow directions, self-check work, and learn from mistakes Good written and verbal communication skills Strong computational skills (C/C++, Fortran, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent) Comfortable working with a variety of computer platforms and languages
Desired Qualifications Masters Degree in physics, mathematics, or engineering At least 2 years of related work experience Active Secret or TS/SCI Clearance Familiarity with version-control software Familiarity with simulation of physics-based models Familiarity with high-performance computing environment MATLAB and Linux experience strongly preferred C++ experience preferred Radar and missile defense system experience preferred
