PURPOSE OF POSITION:
TheCo-Medical Director of the Northeastern State University Physician Assistant StudiesProgram advocates for the PA program through active participation in the program and support of thedevelopment and review of the program curriculum and competencies to meet currentpractice standards as they relate to the PA role.
EXTENT OFAUTHORITY/RESPONSIBILITY:
The Co-Medical Director has general responsibilities, as assigned anddelegated by the Program Director, with the concurrence of the Dean of the Gregg Wadley Collegeof Science and Health Professions. The Medical Director contributes to the successfuloperation of the educational program through curriculum development and review,administration, teaching, admissions, service, and collaboration with the program director, faculty, andPA students. The Co-Medical Director is a staff position and is not eligible for tenure.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS NECESSARY FORPOSITION:
Currently or previously licensedPA or osteopathic or allopathic physician with clinical practice experience. Currently or previouslyboard-certified. An established record ofprogressive professional, academic, and administrative achievement. Possesses knowledge and visionabout the future of the PA profession with a strong commitment to achieving themission of the Program, College, and Northeastern State University. Experience developing andadministering clinical education programs in medicine or allied health preferred. Prior experience as a medicaleducator preferred. Strong ability to organize, plan,and multi-task. Effective communication skills. Demonstrated record of initiative. Team-building skills. Strong work ethic.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:
Theposition reports directly to the Program Director for the PA Program. The position doesnot have any supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches didactic and clinicalcurriculum assigned by the Program Director, Director of Didactic Education, and Directorof Clinical Education to PA students within the scope of their medical/surgical disciplineand expertise. Attends Faculty ExecutiveCommittee meetings and participates in program meetings, including accreditation reviews,retreats and faculty development events. Attends Curriculum Committeemeetings at the end of each semester, ad-hoc meetings as needed. Serves as the chair of the StudentProgress Committee meetings at the end of each semester and ad-hoc meetings asneeded. Contributes to the development andregular review of the program's didactic and clinical curriculum and competencies inconjunction with the program leadership, ensuring they meet current PA practicestandards. Participates in the admissionscycle yearly by reviewing applications, interviewing applicants and contributing toadmissions decision-making. Acts as a program liaison toassist in negotiating, establishing and maintaining clinical preceptorships on behalf of theprogram. Celebrates student success byattending White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, New Student Orientation and selected otherprogram and college promotional events.
