Job Description
Position Title: Bus Monitor
Division: Operations/Transportation
Reports To: Route Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Salary Schedule: Hourly
Work Days: 178
Essential Duties: Assist bus drivers on each route to ensure the physical and emotional safety of students. Attend training meetings as required by the Director of Transportation. Assist with loading and unloading of students. This assistance may include, but is not limited to, lifting, seating, safety belting, etc. of students. Become familiar with, and demonstrate competence in, operating special equipment needed to transport students. This special equipment may include, but is not limited to, wheelchairs, mobility chairs, and lifts. Assist the bus driver in conducting emergency evacuation drills as required by the Transportation Department. Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff, students, and the public. Legibly and accurately complete required reports on a timely basis. Know, understand, and practice the expectations outlined in the Bus Monitor Duties and Responsibilities document. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Minimum of a High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE). Ability to work well with staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders. Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation. Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work. Ability to be present at the physical worksite. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds. Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
