STS Technical Services is hiring an Interior Design Engineer in Greensboro, North Carolina. This role is responsible for performing CAD design engineering for cabin, cockpit, and baggage structures, components, and trim for aircraft interiors. You will also complete CAD modeling for interior installations and customer-specific modifications.
Position Summary
The Interior Design Engineer develops conceptual and detailed designs for aircraft interiors while ensuring compliance with customer requirements, engineering standards, and industry best practices. This position requires strong CAD expertise, familiarity with aircraft structures, and the ability to work cross-functionally to support design, quality, and production teams.
Responsibilities
Create conceptual designs for aircraft interiors using 3D modeling software, drawings, and drafting applications
Develop designs for fit, form, and function that meet customer and design criteria
Provide designs to support fabrication processes, including sheet metal, composites, CNC machining, extrusions, and injection molding
Validate designs per engineering principles, design standards, and industry best practices
Make recommendations to engineering leadership and management
Research and maintain current knowledge of cockpit, cabin, and baggage structures, hardware, materials, and finishes
Ensure adherence to program schedules and weight-conscious design execution
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Associate degree in CAD-related field required; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering preferred (equivalent experience considered)
8+ years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years of design engineering in mechanical/interior design for aircraft or automotive interiors
Knowledge of conceptual design development for interiors in aviation or automotive environments
Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23/25 regulations
In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Proficiency in CATIA V5 workbenches or equivalent 3D modeling tools (Solidworks, Unigraphics, etc.)
Proficiency in Teamcenter or equivalent PLM tool
Strong communication skills with the ability to present data clearly and concisely
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Strong organizational skills to ensure timely completion of projects
Physical Requirements
Exposure to equipment operational noise, heat, cold, dust, and aircraft parts or fuel odors
Ability to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for extended periods
Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 10 lbs. unassisted; up to 50 lbs. with company-provided assistive technology
Must be able to read, hear, speak, and see without restriction
Adhere to all FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, state, and federal safety regulations
