School Bus Monitor
Job Summary:
The School Bus Monitor assists the bus driver in providing safe and orderly transportation of students. The monitor is responsible for maintaining a secure, supportive, and respectful environment on the school bus.
Essential Responsibilities: Assists students with disabilities in safely boarding and exiting the bus, including securing mobility devices, seat belts, safety vests, or car seats. Monitor student behavior and provide supervision to ensure compliance with bus rules. Support students with special needs by providing reassurance, positive reinforcement, and redirection as necessary. Assistant in emergency situations, including evacuations, following established safety procedures. Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policy and FERPA. Perform other duties as assigned to support the safe operation of school transportation. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Patience, compassion, and ability to work with children and adolescents with diverse needs and disabilities. Basic knowledge of child safety and first aid. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, or pull when assisting students with mobility devices. Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching. Ability to assist students in wheelchairs or other adaptive equipment. Ability to work in and around a school bus in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) and tolerate moderate to high noise levels from traffic and student passengers. Ability to maintain alertness and attention for extended periods while supervising students on the bus. Ability to evacuate students safely in case of an emergency, which may involve lifting, carrying, or guiding students out of the bus.
Terms of Employment:
180 Days; Salary based on district Salary Scale for Bus Monitor
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.
