Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
Join our custom test equipment team and collaborate under the direction of the Principal Engineer. You will plan, organize, coordinate, and execute machine controls development activities. Your role will involve solving machine process and integration requirements, as well as performing other related duties. A broad understanding of electrical controls, wiring, PLC programming, safety systems, and multi-axis motion controllers is essential. This position requires the ability to travel to manufacturing sites to transition machine development operating knowledge.
Responsibilities
Participate in the development of new manufacturing equipment, integration, and improvement initiatives to support advanced manufacturing.
Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing & Technology engineering staff and Operations PL's to ensure schedule attainment and provide robust documentation for machine development activities.
Design and develop machine electrical controls solutions, safety system integration, schematics development, and bill of material development.
Engage in panel building, wiring, programming, and commissioning activities.
Demonstrate strong motion control and synchronized motion programming skills.
Develop electrical schematics using CAD tools.
Integrate PLCs, HMIs, servo and VFD drives, industrial robots, machine vision systems, laser marking and welding, material handling systems, and safety systems.
Apply knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, ANSI B11, and ANSI R15 standards.
Identify and utilize new technologies and controls strategies to develop leading-edge solutions.
Emphasize the use of Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs.
Collaborate with external technical resources for machine development when necessary.
Lead development with component and equipment suppliers for custom controls solutions.
Deliver formal presentations on project status and development activities.
Create, maintain, and package comprehensive documentation for developed equipment and support pre-production activities.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of experience in electrical design, preferably with Solidworks Electrical or AutoCAD Electrical.
Familiarity with PLC programming.
Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for machine or concept evaluations, with estimated yearly travel at 10% - 20%.
Work Environment
The position is based in the Menomonee Falls office. The role requires the ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment while occasionally traveling for concept evaluations. Dress code is business casual.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookfield, Wisconsin.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $75.00/hr.
