Summary:

The Communications Manager supports the Coastal Conservation League's Advancement team by creating and executing communications that strengthen advocacy initiatives, inspire donor engagement, and highlight the organization's conservation impact. While the Public Relations Director leads external visibility and media relations, the Communications Manager focuses on advancement communications - blending advocacay and development messages into cohesive storytelling. This role is responsible for donor communications such as appeals, reports, and stewardship materials, as well as managing social media and digital platforms to engage supporters. The Communications Manager works across territories to ensure that conservation priorities are communicated effectively to donors, advocates, and stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

Develop and execute communications plans in partnership with the Public Relations Director and Advancement team to support advocacy priorities, fundraising, and donor engagement. Write and edit compelling content across platforms, including newsletters, fundraising communications, advocacy campaigns, email marketing, social media, and digital storytelling. Translate technical conservation and advocacy information into accessible, inspiring narratives for donors and supporters. Collaborate with program staff across territories to gather stories, impact updates, and project highlights that can be used in donor and advocacy communications. Work with the Conservation Programs team to draft, design, and distribute timely action alerts that mobilize supporters around key advocacy issues. Manage the organization's social media strategy and execution, ensuring alignment with advancement and advocacy goals. Create and manage donor-facing communications including special appeals, annual fund, annual report, seasonal campaigns, and stewardship materials. Monitor and track performance metrics (email campaigns, appeals, social media analytics) to inform communications strategies. Ensure consistent branding, tone, and messaging across all advancement and advocacy communications. Support design and layout of marketing materials, including digital and print collateral. Work closely with the Public Relations Director to ensure advancement communications are aligned with the organization's overall communications strategy. Proofread and copy edit materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and professionalism. Other duties as assigned. Authorities:

Manage the organization's social media presence, ensuring alignment with advancement goals. Ensure consistent branding, tone, and messaging across all donor and advocacy communications. Serve as the lead communications partner within the Advancement department, coordinating closely with the Public Relations Director. Competencies:

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor communications, advocacy campaigns, and digital content. Ability to translate complex conservation, advocacy, and technical topics into clear, engaging narratives and action-oriented messaging. Strong understanding of best practices in fundraising communications, donor engagement, and advocacy outreach. Proficiency in managing and creating content for social media platforms, with the ability to track and interpret analytics. Creative thinker with the ability to design and adapt communications for both print and digital channels. Collaborative team player with strong cross-departmental communication skills. Positive, flexible, and resourceful approach to problem-solving and adapting to changing priorities. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines. Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent experience. 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit communications, including donor or advocacy communications. Demonstrated success managing social media platforms and creating engaging content. Proven ability to translate complex issues into accessible, persuasive messaging. Preferred Education and Experience:

Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; or equivalent experience. Familiarity with conservation or environmental issues. Experience working in Advancement, Development, or Advocacy communications for a nonprofit. Knowledge of CRM database systems, email marketing platforms, or digital engagement tools.
