Citizen Schools
Become a mentor for middle and high school students and empower them for future careers!
How do mentors make an impact?
Volunteer Mentors join us in the classroom to support a new hands-on approach to teaching and learning-one that helps underserved students develop the skills, mindsets, and networks to thrive in the 21st-century economy.
They build trusting relationships with students that are critical for their learning and growth, and in turn our students thrive while working with mentors that look like them, seeing themselves in the potential of various career paths.
Mentors will commit to attending weekly classroom visits with students and are intentionally matched with students according to their skillsets, work experiences, classroom needs, and project needs.
What will you do?
Work with a classroom of students to complete an experience-based learning project.
Provide insight into future careers by connecting project skills to learnings from your career and educational background.
Support students' presentation skills, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving, and provide feedback on students' work.
We match you with a classroom that meets your schedule!
What is the commitment and training like?
Volunteers commit to attend (5), hour-long classroom sessions between October and December
Training/Support will be provided
Citizen Schools is a national nonprofit organization, serving underserved students across the country. We believe that all students can thrive through hands-on learning and career mentors. Through our programs, we bring together students, teachers, administrators, industry visionaries, volunteers, and community based organizations to catalyze collaborative relationships. The result transforms education to prepare students with the skills they will need to succeed and be empowered for future career pathways.
