Safety Manager - Distribution & Transmission (DTE)

Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, programs, and procedures specifically related to distribution and transmission line operations, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NESC, and other regulatory requirements. Conduct hazard analyses and oversee the implementation of corrective measures to mitigate risks in line construction and maintenance activities. Lead safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and ensure all safety protocols are followed. Provide training, education, and coaching to employees and contractors on safety standards and best practices. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to integrate safety into daily operations and long-term planning. Investigate safety incidents and near misses, developing comprehensive reports and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Develop and enforce job site emergency response plans and procedures. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, safety technologies, and emerging regulations to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous process improvement. Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) where all team members feel respected and valued. Qualifications

Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered). Minimum 5 years of experience in safety management, with a focus on distribution and transmission line safety. Knowledge & Skills: Strong understanding of distribution line and transmission line operations, construction, and maintenance practices. Thorough knowledge of OSHA, NESC, NFPA 70E, and related industry safety standards. Experience with hazard identification, root cause analysis, and implementation of preventative measures. Proficiency in safety training techniques and familiarity with safety management software. Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse teams. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure. Demonstrated commitment to promoting a DEI-focused workplace. Preferred: CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), or similar safety certifications. Experience working in the utility or energy sector. Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to promote accessibility and inclusiveness. Day-to-Day

Conduct on-site safety inspections for distribution and transmission projects to ensure alignment with safety regulations and company policies. Review and approve safety-related plans and permits for new projects. Deliver safety briefings and toolbox talks to field crews before work begins. Monitor real-time operations and provide immediate consultation on potential safety concerns. Facilitate regular safety training sessions and workshops. Analyze safety performance metrics and develop strategies for continuous improvement. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior management, field workers, and contractors, to report on safety initiatives and progress.
