Location: Bus Garage JOB TITLE: PONY/VAN DRIVER
REPORTS TO: Director of Food Service/Supervisor of Transportation JOB OBJECTIVE: Pony Driver-assist with the delivery of mail, packages, food, supplies, related items, etc. Van Driver-is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from schools, programs, and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
I. Advances the district's professional image. Promotes the district's mission, philosophy, and vision. Maintains open and effective communications. Serves as an information resource. Maintains a professional appearance. Wears work attire appropriate for the position. Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information. II. Pony Driver
Provides pickup and delivery of internal mail to all district sites on an assigned schedule. Performs pre-delivery sorting, inspection, and delivery of mail and packages. Deliver mail, print shop materials, food, supplies, etc. according to the pony schedule. Go to the designated banks and post office as necessary, make adjustments to the pony schedule as needed (i.e. if a frozen foods need delivered to a separate building earlier in the route make the adjustment, etc.). Unload the print shop materials, cases of food & supplies & deliver to the designated areas. If food is refrigerated or frozen, put in the appropriate cooler or freezers. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. III. Van Driver
The Van Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from schools, programs, and facilities. This position ensures the safety, well-being, and respectful treatment of all passengers while operating district-owned vehicles in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and district policies. Operate the van in a safe, lawful, and courteous manner at all times. Adhere to all traffic laws, district policies, and state/federal transportation regulations. Safely transport students to and from school, programs, and assigned facilities on scheduled routes. Provide transportation for field trips, extracurricular activities, or other district-approved events as assigned. Ensure the safety of students during boarding, riding, and exiting the vehicle. Assist students as needed, including those with special needs or mobility challenges.Maintain appropriate student behavior while in transit, following district guidelines. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the van. Report any mechanical or safety concerns immediately to the transportation supervisor. Keep the van clean, fueled, and in good working condition. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and supervisors regarding transportation needs or issues. Complete required reports, logs, and documentation (mileage, incidents, maintenance, etc.). Report accidents, delays, or unsafe conditions promptly. Know and follow established safety and emergency procedures. Provide appropriate assistance during emergencies, such as evacuations or medical incidents. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information. Display a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude with students, parents, and staff. Represent the school district positively at all times. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. IV. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
Monitors safety concerns. Works with stakeholders to manage or eliminate risk factors. Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law. Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others. Helps students understand and embrace ethical conduct and democratic values. WORKING CONDITIONS:
To promote safety, employees are expected to exercise caution and comply with safety regulations and district policies/procedures when involved in the following situations/conditions.
Exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes. Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases. Interactions with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals. Operating and/or riding in a vehicle. Traveling to meetings and work assignments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver's license with a safe driving record (Van certification) Successful completion of district-required driver training programs. Ability to pass a background check and required drug/alcohol screenings. CPR/First Aid certifications required. Experience working with children is preferred. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and transport packages in and out of pony van. Must be able to drive and work in extreme weather conditions. All other duties that fall within the above description of the job. Available to work irregular hours and/or a non-traditional schedule. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Effectively uses active listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills. Interprets information accurately and initiates effective responses.
