A Boston-based public sector agency is seeking a Senior Cyber Security Engineer for a contract-to-hire position. This opportunity is well-suited for a hands-on security professional eager to protect critical infrastructure and protect sensitive data across multiple offices.
In this role, you'll play a key part in cybersecurity operations, covering everything from active threat monitoring and incident response to long-term system hardening and risk reduction. You will also partner with IT leadership to ensure security initiatives align with organizational priorities. Occasional after-hours support may be required for urgent incidents or planned maintenance. Required Skills & Experience 5+ years of experience with a cybersecurity focus Bachelor's degree in IT, engineering, or a related technical field-or equivalent certifications (CISSP, CEH, CISM). Practical experience with the following: SIEM tools and threat detection platforms (e.g., Splunk) Firewalls, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection systems Running and interpreting vulnerability scans Applying security policies and access management controls
Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST 800-61 and CIS Controls. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Desired Skills & Experience
Previous experience supporting security efforts in government or other regulated industries. Proficiency with networking equipment including switches, firewalls, routers, and wireless access points. Knowledge of secure onboarding/offboarding processes. Experience performing audits and developing risk mitigation strategies.
