PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST
CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK
Peer Support Specialists will utilize their lived experience to assist consumers with navigating the process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. Peer Support Specialists will teach consumers the importance of improving the four major dimensions that support a life in recovery including Home, Health, Purpose and Community.
EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains documentation as evidence that all duties are completed in accordance with program requirements contained in the Department of Mental Health Operational Standards. Maintains proper training, continuing education, qualifications, and other certifications required for this position as written in the Department of Mental Health Operational Standards. Provide opportunities for consumers to direct their own recovery process Teach and support acquisition and utilization of skills needed to facilitate individual recovery Participate in monthly Wraparound meetings as requested Coordinate with the consumer's treatment team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help achieve their goals Promote the utilization of natural resources within the community Serve as a positive role-model and demonstrate a professional and caring attitude toward co-workers and consumers Ensure confidentiality of all consumer information Provide a minimum of 6 hours/day of direct face-to-face services to consumers All other duties as assigned by supervisors. QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a self-identified current or former mental health consumer Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must be certified as a peer specialist by the Department of Mental Health Must have demonstrated a minimum of six (6) months in self-directed recovery Must pass a criminal background check Must have a valid MS driver's license Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist credentialed through the Division of PLACE
REPORTING SUPERVISOR
Peer Support Services Supervisor, program Coordinator, Director or Administrator according to program assignment.
