The Lead Facilities and Janitorial Coordinator is a hands-on working leader responsible for the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of YWCAs buildings, grounds, and parking areas. This role combines direct facilities and janitorial work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring high standards of maintenance, preventative care, and operational efficiency. The Coordinator supports and guides the facilities/janitorial team, works closely with the Director of Facilities, and collaborates across departments to maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-cared-for environment for all staff, members, and visitors. Team Leadership & Mentorship
Serve as a working leader, providing guidance, support, and direction to the facilities/janitorial team. Act as the primary point of contact for the Director of Facilities regarding team progress, needs, and project status. Assist with training and onboarding of new staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, proper equipment use, and established procedures. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and efficient team environment. Support implementation of systems that improve cross-departmental efficiency. Facilities Maintenance & Operations
Perform regular and preventative maintenance on the building, equipment, and grounds. Complete maintenance requests promptly in alignment with YWCAs Fix-It protocol. Monitor and maintain utility systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) to ensure proper functioning and compliance with warranty or insurance requirements. Support major maintenance projects, including serving as a liaison with contractors when needed. Identify and report potential maintenance or safety concerns to the Director of Facilities, recommending solutions as appropriate. Janitorial & Cleaning
Ensure a consistently high standard of cleanliness across the facility, including common areas, restrooms, offices, childcare areas, and outdoor spaces. Oversee cleaning supply and equipment inventory in coordination with the Director of Facilities. Maintain cleaning equipment in safe, functional condition. Provide supplemental support to janitorial staff and contractors as needed. Safety & Security
Conduct daily safety checks of the building and grounds, identifying and addressing hazards. Ensure all safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, emergency exits) is accessible and operational. Assist with opening/closing duties and other security procedures to safeguard organizational assets. Participate in mandated testing and drills (e.g., fire and lockdown drills). Customer Service & Collaboration
Provide welcoming, professional support to staff, members, and visitors. Respond promptly and respectfully to concerns or requests. Work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment. Qualifications
Experience 35 years of commercial facilities maintenance experience, with emphasis in plumbing and/or electrical systems. Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role is strongly preferred. Certifications (preferred) Building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, or electrical certifications. Other Requirements Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide and train team members. Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-service focus. Ability to operate a variety of maintenance tools and equipment safely. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation. Ability to pass a background check. Proficiency with Google Suite and other computer applications. Physical Demands Regularly stand for long periods, walk, bend, stoop, and climb stairs. Work in close quarters, on ladders, and in outdoor conditions (including rain and snow). Use power and hand tools safely. Lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
