Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a high-acuity unit with level 3 NICU exposure and variable 12-hour shifts.
Responsibilities Position is in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED (Triage beds), and 4 Antepartum rooms Cares for a diverse OB patient population from high-risk to low-intervention, including antepartum, triage, postpartum, and infants Staffing ratios: Antepartum 1:3, Inactive Labor 1:2, Active Labor 1:1, Postpartum/Couplet 1:3 couplets Requires care for couplets and postpartum throughout the contract 12-hour variable shifts (days and nights), including every other weekend and holidays as needed Floating to postpartum/couplet care required throughout the contract No on-call requirement Utilizes Epic charting system Responsibilities include comprehensive care for laboring patients, high-risk OB, postpartum/couplet care, and supporting procedures such as IV starts, C-sections, and medication administration Team includes a unit secretary, scrub tech, charge nurse, VAT team, RT 24/7, OB physician team, and anesthesia/CRNA support Four-day orientation with a preceptor (three days in L&D, one in postpartum) Cobalt blue scrubs provided by the hospital Free parking available on site Manager approval required for time off during assignment First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements Active South Dakota or compact RN license Completion of a nursing program approved by a board of nursing Minimum 2 years L&D RN experience, preferably in a level 3 or higher L&D unit Proficiency managing high-acuity labor patients, including preeclampsia, preterm labor, and antepartum patients under 35 weeks gestation Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required Epic EMR experience required unless specifically approved by management Highly preferred: experience with Level 2 nursery Preferred: ACLS, inpatient obstetrics certification, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum specialty certification Comfortable with IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate, blood administration, insulin, circulating C-sections, and C-section recovery care Must live at least 100 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted
