Maintenance Technician

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the building's equipment and systems. Responsibilities include: Maintenance and repair of boilers and boiler room auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam and water valves, air compressors, and high-pressure condensates. Monitoring load demands and starting or shutting down respective boilers, air compressors, and water pumps to maintain the required steam, air, and water (cold, hot, re-use) output needed. The individual must be able to react to changes in load demands as required, including during emergencies. Monitoring the chemical feed system for water treatment and making necessary tests and adjustments to ensure correct chemical levels. Manipulating valves to control the flow of water and fuel and to increase or decrease steam, water, and air as required. Adjusting equipment controls to correct malfunctions if they occur. Observing operating equipment, meters, and gauges to ensure that operation is in accord with specified instructions. Inspecting boiler safety devices. Reporting abnormal operating conditions or major repair requirements to shift supervisor, and assisting in implementing remedial action, and logging all information. Performing minor repairs, as necessary, such as replacing defective meters, packing valves, worn gaskets, and tightening joints. Receiving calls from departmental personnel regarding problems, such as lack of temperature control. Relaying information to shift supervisor of maintenance performed and logging all information down in the daily log book of any repairs or corrections. Maintaining the boiler room and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. May clean and paint equipment as necessary. Assisting in the annual boiler inspection and preparing boilers for annual inspection. Demonstrating personal commitment to the organization's core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process. Demonstrating safe work practices and attitudes, following all safety rules, working to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participating in organizational and departmental safety programs. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Abilities: Prior experience in manufacturing maintenance required, including machinery. Food, beverage, or CPG experience preferred. Technician-level knowledge and mechanical ability to operate, perform routine maintenance, and conduct troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and natural gas-fired equipment. Basic computer skills required- knowledge and flexibility to make use of various digital tools to communicate, access information, and track work. Experience and comfort with the Microsoft Office suite and ERP or CMMS programs add value. Familiarity with safety standards and regulations. Forklift certification is preferred but not required. Will train. Must be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions and training in English. Committed to being a team player and understands the importance of flexibility in a start-up environment. Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, organization, and ability to follow instructions. Hand/eye coordination and mechanical aptitude. Ability to work unsupervised or with limited instruction. Ability to climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift objects up to fifty pounds. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivated with often minimal supervision. Work performance must demonstrate a sense of urgency. Reliable and punctual with a commitment to consistent attendance. Education & Experience: 1-2 years of maintenance experience. Work experience in ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, and air compressor operations and maintenance (preferred, not required). Working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting all common types of ammonia central systems, control/alarm systems, water tube, and fire tube boilers, and compressed air systems (preferred, not required). Valid Driver's license and ability to be added to corporate insurance. Able to pass a physical examination and Respirator Fit Testing. Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to all work safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements. Maintain and manage job toolboxes in an accurate, neat, and orderly manner. HAZ-MAT training is preferred but not required. RETA 1&2 certification is preferred but not required. High school diploma. Certification preferred. Schedule: Full-time hourly, 40+ hours per week.
