Juvenile Treatment Specialist III

General youth programming duties with an emphasis on Parent, Guardian, Family Work

NATURE OF WORK: Under supervision performs work of moderate difficulty; develops respectful, engaging, and motivational teaching relationship with assigned youth and/or parents or guardians; provides Prosocial Skills Training for assigned youth and/or parents or guardians under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court; utilizes Psycho-Educational Programming that builds youths' Prosocial Motivations, Beliefs, and Skills; utilizes evidence based practices including youth and family centered and cognitive behavioral based practices; overall goal of family work is to improve the quality of relationships between parent / guardian and youth and/or parent support or parent educational groups performs related work as assigned; and accepts rotating assignments and work schedules which may include working detention shifts.

Under supervision performs work of moderate difficulty coordinating and implementing programs, activities, and security and custody procedures in the Juvenile Detention facility; performs related work as assigned. Salary Range: $45,560.25 - $51,571.81 Typical Duties

(Illustrative Only) • Conducts orientation with juveniles • Communicates with parents, social agencies, service providers and co-workers as required • Appears in court • Produces accurate court reports • Distributes medications to youth • Provides individual and group assessments • Implements detention/court wide programs for individual and group activities • Provides individual counseling and leads group counseling sessions, recording individual responses and group dynamics • Facilitates conflict resolution between peers • Disciplines and appropriately applies search and restraint techniques as needed • May supervise visitors, support personnel and volunteers in secure area of facility • Handles emergency or crisis situations • Arranges and schedules detainee transportation • May transport juveniles as necessary • Ensures timely and accurate Juvenile On-Line Tracking System (JOLTS) entries

Essential functions of this position include but not limited to: driving; standing and walking to supervise detainees; working with and around co-workers, juveniles and the public; dealing with interruptions; vision acuity near and far, hearing and speech for communicating with juveniles, staff and the public. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related field OR

Associates Degree in related field and one year working with Juveniles in a residential setting OR

Two years working with juveniles in a residential setting; OR

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must obtain First aid/CPR certification by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment, Must submit to background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for hire within the Juvenile facility. Forty hours of orientation training are required within first month on the job. Sixteen additional hours of COJET certified training are required each year.

Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working with parents / guardians / families in a residential, academic, social service or therapeutic setting. Experience in utilization of trauma informed practices. Experience facilitating / delivering a specific evidence based parenting program.

This position is safety sensitive.

This position is non-exempt from overtime.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: - Principles, methods and techniques of group and individual counseling - Child and adolescent development theories and application - Dynamics of behavioral and emotional problems in children - Crisis intervention and basic first aid techniques including CPR - Detention policies and procedures and applicable state laws, rules and regulations - Basic principles and methods of treatment for juvenile delinquency - Principles of supervision and training for adults

Working knowledge of: - Practices and procedures of a juvenile detention facility - Juvenile court proceedings - Human behavior and various social, economic and cultural backgrounds - Recordkeeping, documentation and report writing - Adolescent group activity planning and leadership - Practices of skill building for families, parents, guardians, and youth - Family Centered Practices - teamwork - following policy and procedures - Human behavior and various social, economic and cultural backgrounds

Ability to: - Effectively plan and schedule the work of others - Make appropriate decisions regarding methods of intervention and treatment - Work rotating shifts and be available for 24-hour emergency on-call - Work safely and support the culture of workplace safely - Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public - Follow written and verbal instructions - Communicate effectively verbally and in writing - Deal impartially with individuals of various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds -Work primarily in the field and office setting.
