GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The team will augment services provided by Air Force military personnel to modify, maintain, inspect, control corrosion, overhaul, repair, regenerate and store various weapon systems, related components, missiles, engines, ground support equipment and vehicles.

DUTIES:

Plan, construct and repair specialized containers and material handling items using wood, wood substitute materials or materials required by technical data.

Perform standard and specialized preservation and/or packing using various techniques to ensure safe and damage free movement of various aircraft components. Aircraft components include large and unbalanced equipment, sensitive electronics, delicate instruments, industrial components, radar antennas, turbines engines and hazardous materials.

Prepare, and process required documentation, special handing labels, shipping codes, and required safety data.

Plan, construct and repair containers using Special Packaging instructions (SPI), engineering and process orders, blueprints technical data and item specifications.

Install blocking/bracing points to account for irregular or odd shaped walls, floors, sides, overhead area.

Coordinate shipments with assigned Government representatives to determine location, availability, and condition of materials.

Locate and move materials to specified production areas, using cart or hand truck.

Document and maintain related shipment records.

Perform packing operations including labeling, applying the proper shipping tags, identifying container markings, determining the appropriateness of material in use, and stamping and certifying Work Control Document (WCD).

Follow various Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) and DAFI 24-602, Packaging; DoD 4500.9R, Vol. II, Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR), 49 CFR, International Air Transport Association (IATA), and all related shipping regulations.

Wood Packing Management (WPM) trained.

Use and maintain various types of hand pneumatic and power tools; including table, up cut, miter, band, and panel saws; nailers, impact wrenches, cutoff air tools; and portable power tools such as skill saws, reciprocating saws and drills.

Prepare paint surfaces by removing scale, rust, dirt, and old paint so that coating materials will adhere properly.

Perform all necessary preparatory work including covering gaps and filling surfaces/seams using spackle and other filling materials.

Coat and treat surfaces using standard application techniques (spray, roller or brush) to protect boxes from extreme environmental conditions.

Apply a thin coating when required to account for environmental changes while maintaining the integrity of the coatings.

Use a variety of common hand tools and electric power such as: rollers, spray guns, air compressors, and generators.

Troubleshoot and maintain power sprayer for daily use with support equipment following manufactures' guide for proper operation and cleaning.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Must have at least 4-6 years of applicable experience

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance

A. Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

C. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.

D. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

E. May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.

F. Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.

G. Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.

H. Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.

I. May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
