JOB TITLE: Ingredient Buyer DEPARTMENT: Purchasing

STATUS LEVEL: Salaried

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to Sr. Purchasing Manager

JOB SUMMARY: The Ingredient Buyer coordinates strategic sourcing best practices for purchasing to make effective supply base decisions that deliver uncompromised quality for production needs. This valued team member will be responsible for executing a comprehensive sourcing plan (requirements planning, quotation, negotiation, contracting/pricing) to deliver the highest value through total cost ownership. The ingredient buyer will lead supplier development projects to expand the company's ingredient base, enhance key supply chain partnerships, conduct product category RFx initiatives, and gain insight to developing market trends. Internally, this team member will collaborate with other departments (R&D, operations/quality, finance, regulatory, and sales/marketing) to generate positive business outcomes. The ingredient buyer will also assist the Sr. Purchasing Manager with other department functions and projects. This individual will bring a proven success record to the team and will make a significant impact on the organization.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for managing a direct ingredient sourcing strategy totaling approximately $45 million annually • Analyze data to make informed purchasing decisions regarding price, quantity, quality, and lead time • Develop and forge trusting partnerships with suppliers to achieve better service value • Be steadfast and uncompromising in quality requirements with the FNA supplier base. Proactively communicate quality requirements, and hold suppliers accountable to deliver upon them • Develop and maintain expert knowledge of respective domestic and global supply markets, competitors and product innovations. Contribute content to monthly published market reports • Analyze current product positioning, factoring both supply and demand factors to form fact-based proposals for strategic sourcing and contracting activities • Plan and execute effective negotiation strategies with suppliers that ensure proper coverage to meet production and customer requirements • Place appropriate orders and liaise with others in supply chain to ensure timely delivery • Troubleshoot issues that arise, using continuous improvement methodologies to achieve future state advancements

DESIRED SKILLS & EDUCATION: • BA/BS Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field • At least five years' work experience; procurement and/or supply chain experience strongly preferred • Proficient in MS Office; possess strong competency in using Microsoft Excel as an analytical tool • Proven ability to learn, adapt, and gain proficiency in MRP/ERP systems and analytical software • Detail oriented, organized, and excellent written and verbal communication skills; brings a "team-first" approach to daily interactions • Strong analytical skills that can be applied to continuous improvement initiatives - enhanced operational efficiencies, improved quality, and capturing cost savings
