General Purpose
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled repairs and maintenance work, operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, sewer, street, City services and systems, and parks maintenance. City of Globe is a drug and alcohol-free environment. Grade 6, steps 1-3 Examples of Duties
Assists with the planning, scheduling and implementation of construction, maintenance, and operation and construction activities designed to provide quality water, sewer, street and drainage service for the city. Inspects and/or repairs chlorine injection equipment, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly. Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc. Must be able to determine locates through blue stake process for gas, telephone, power, cable water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation. Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor. Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explain when services will be shut off and how soon it will be turned back on. Mows and maintains parks and open space areas; mows lawns; weeds, maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. Maintains trails and improvements. Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of drinking fountains and restrooms. Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs City Facilities as needed. Performs minor unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance of open space structures such as restrooms, shelters, maintenance sheds, etc. by performing custodial, maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of parks and open spaces. Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems. Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed. Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions. Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises. Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions and programs, prepares facilities for program use. Assists in the construction of new open space facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work. Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, Jetter/inductor truck or backhoe/loader. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling. Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes water mains, pipe, gates, and fittings on repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants and drinking fountains; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains. Services water supply, sewer lift and other pumps. Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water, sewer, streets and parks department. Performs other duties as assigned. Occasionally work On-Call hours. PERIPHERAL DUTIES Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned. Required Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and Good (1 to 3 years) experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair Any equivalent combination of education and experience Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have the ability to obtain ADEQ Water Distribution Certification level 1 Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time Ability to work safely and carryout safety procedures Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and computer skills Ability to communicate effectively with the employees, other departments and the public Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions Ability to successfully complete AZ DOC Inmate Training Ability to successfully complete AZ 811(Blue Stake) training Ability to successfully complete Traffic Control and Flagger training Ability to successfully complete Occupational and Hazards training
