Position Overview
International, a leading North American truck manufacturer, is seeking a
Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Automotive Powertrain Assembly
to join our team at the Powertrain Manufacturing Facility in Huntsville, AL.
In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the production of International's recently launched T14 transmission. Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Production teams to improve current manufacturing processes, ensure adherence to specifications, and drive quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement across powertrain assembly operations.
Schedule : 4x10 production schedule (Mon-Thurs, 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM). Must be able to support production recovery times including Fridays and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
Process Development & Optimization • Develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequences, and processes for component, sub-assembly, and final assembly production. • Research, design, and improve manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and equipment utilization. • Estimate manufacturing costs, establish time standards, and recommend tooling or process changes to optimize performance. • Perform product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency gains. Technical Expertise & Problem Solving • Provide technical support to the Quality department to resolve product or process issues. • React quickly to equipment downtime and drive permanent, cost-effective solutions. • Benchmark best practices from other facilities to standardize and improve manufacturing processes. • Support the launch of new or revised products by setting goals, training teams, and evaluating outcomes. • Follow up on engineering changes, design variations, and new program developments to ensure compliance. Project & Capital Management • Lead capital appropriation projects from initiation through implementation. • Maintain project budgets and timelines, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery. • Represent Manufacturing Engineering on cross-functional teams. • Provide coaching or informal leadership to junior engineers and colleagues. Travel Requirement • Occasional travel (5-10%) for benchmarking, supplier visits, or equipment run-offs. • Represents manufacturing on cross-functional teams • May instruct, coach, or provide informal guidance to other professionals or colleagues with less experience • May require travel to benchmark other manufacturing locations or to run-off new equipment. (5%-10%)
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree At least 2 years of product manufacturing experience OR
Master's degree OR
At least 4 years of product manufacturing experience Additional Requirements
Qualified candidates, excluding current International Motors employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Proficient with electric torque controlled fastening tools Proficient with press equipment and processes Proficient with vision system implementation and support Proficient with launching new products Competence with launching new products in an existing production line Competence with maintaining and follow up on project budgets Competence with developing and maintaining project timelines Competence with Microsoft Office products Experience with Robotic Assembly systems Experience with CAD and 3D modeling tools preferred Siemens NX Experience with AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) Experience with presenting resolutions to quality issues Experience with resolving safety and ergonomic issues in a manufacturing environment Ability, and willingness to lead and guide other professionals or colleagues Ability, and willingness to learn from others
