PPG Industries
Process Analytical Technology - Chemometrician
PPG Industries, Springdale, Pennsylvania, United States, 15144
Are you independent, curious, adaptable, and experienced in Chemometrics as well as liquid coatings manufacturing and testing? This could be the role for you!
The Process Analytical Technology (PAT) team at PPG Industries, is looking to add a
Chemometrician
to the team. The PAT team is part of the IS Global Engineering Team responsible for supporting ~90 sites across the globe. The PAT creates strategic advantages through a transformational combination of real-time analytical techniques, multivariate statistics, machine learning algorithms, and soft sensors to capture manufacturing value through measurements. You will report to the PAT Group Leader and work on-site at the Springdale facility with domestic travel up to 5%. You will use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, dust masks, boot covers, hood, safety glasses/prescription safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes for extended periods of time. Key Responsibilities: Apply deep technical knowledge of liquid coatings manufacturing and testing to new and ongoing projects. Deploy a broad range of real-time analyzers and multivariate data analysis and modeling in coatings manufacturing processes. Use exceptional organizational and data management skills to build inline sensor projects. Be proficient at spectral data analysis such as creating and deploying qualitative and quantitative chemometric models. Use existing hands-on experience with calibration, validation, and maintenance of chemometric models to support manufacturing sites. Collaborate with multifunctional teams comprised of research scientists, information technologists, development engineers, process control engineers, technicians, and plant operators. Lead multiple consecutive projects and ensure implementation at the manufacturing site level to meet project deadlines. Establish and maintain relationships, both internal and external with peers and leaders; write reports and standard operating procedures, give presentations, and lead informal discussions with both the scientific and business communities Participate in ongoing training programs to ensure successful release of technology to manufacturing. Qualifications: 3+ years' professional experience as an analytical chemist with Chemometrics in liquid coatings manufacturing and testing. Masters or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science. Established expertise in spectroscopic characterization techniques, especially UV-Vis-NIR, mid-IR, far-IR, Raman, excited-state luminescence (fluorescence / phosphorescence), and the various means for process integration (immersion probe, flow-cell; transmission, diffuse reflection, transflection, attenuated total reflection; steady-state or time-resolved acquisition) Proficiency in multivariate statistics, including PCA, PCR, PLS, for both individual sensors and hyphenated sensors, is mandatory.
