Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description
The primary function of the Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This role is crucial in ensuring the accurate collection and handling of specimens according to established procedures.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination processes.
Update patient information and collect/store specimens as per established protocols.
Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods, such as urine or fecal samples, to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts 100% correctly.
Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
Adhere to procedures specific to protocols for specimen transport to maintain integrity.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy the person.
Essential Skills
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
0-2 years of experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in geriatrics and pediatric blood draws.
Knowledgeable in healthcare and specimen collection procedures.
Work Environment
This role operates in a dynamic laboratory or hospital setting. The position requires handling various specimens and performing tasks that adhere to strict healthcare protocols. The work environment is fast-paced, and adherence to safety regulations is mandatory.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
