1X Technologies AS
About 1X
We're an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously. We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That's why we're focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life. We're looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we'd be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.
Role Overview
As an Automation Engineer in Manufacturing, you will design, deploy, and scale automation systems to enable efficient, reliable, and repeatable production of humanoid robots. You will collaborate across disciplines to ensure assembly, material handling, and end-of-line processes are optimized for quality, throughput, and safety. Your work will be essential for transforming prototype designs into scalable manufacturing at the Hayward facility.
Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain production automation equipment and robotic cells for assembly, joining, fastening, dispensing, testing, and packaging processes Apply mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering principles to develop automation solutions that reduce cycle time, improve quality, and enhance safety Collaborate with manufacturing, design, and controls teams to integrate sensors, actuators, PLCs, and vision systems into automated systems Develop and refine process automation sequences and work instructions to ensure high reliability and throughput Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize automation equipment, including performing root cause analyses of failures Drive continuous improvement of automation hardware, tooling, and processes to scale production capacity Create and maintain detailed documentation including schematics, layouts, code, operating procedures, and maintenance schedules Support new product introduction by developing scalable automation strategies for new robot designs Experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining production automation equipment and robotic systems Strong background in mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering principles relevant to automation hardware Proficiency with PLCs, vision systems, sensors, actuators, and integration of automation components Ability to develop and refine work instructions, process sequences, and ensure high reliability and throughput Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with root cause analysis of hardware and system failures Capability to drive process and hardware improvements to scale production capacity Experience with documentation of automation systems: schematics, layouts, operating procedures, and maintenance schedules Experience supporting new product introductions with automation-focused strategies
