Job Goal:
To give students and staff a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient environment in which staff may teach and students may learn, play and develop.
Essential Functions: Performance Responsibilities:
Follow program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair as established by the Head Custodian. Sweep classrooms daily, dust furniture and empty trash. Clean hallways after school each day and during the day when condition requires it. Keep all floors in a clean, attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. Scrub, hose down and disinfect restroom floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. Clean all white boards and/or chalkboards a minimum of once a week. Move furniture or equipment within the premises as required for various activities as directed by the Head Custodian and/or Building Administrator. Be familiar with MSDS guidelines for products used in performing job duties. Be familiar with the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and understand the custodial role in responding to various incidents. May be assigned to raise the United States flag before/after school. Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Must be dependable and able to work. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Contact and communication with a variety of individuals including staff, students and co-workers. May experience last minute changes for room setup, etc., disrupting normal work schedule. May be assigned to custodial coverage of the physical plant during non-school hours or scheduled school breaks and weekends for heat checks, emergencies and all activities beyond the school day. May assist in clearing sidewalks, driveways, parking areas and steps during winter weather conditions by plowing, shoveling or sanding as directed. Physical requirements may include: Climbing Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs. Near acuity Kneeling Working at heights up to 30' Far acuity Stooping Exposure to electrical shock Hearing Repetitive motion Exposure to weather Smelling

Sterling is located in Logan County in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the front range (I-25 corridor).
RE-1 Valley School District has two high schools, one middle school, one junior high school, three elementary schools and two preschools and serves approximately 1,920students in the Sterling and Iliff/Crook areas, employing about 500 staff. RE-1 Valley School District utilizes a 4-day school week schedule (Tuesday-Friday).
