Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities
Provides child life services to patients and family members, including developmentally appropriate therapeutic play and activities, education, procedural preparation, coping facilitation, and support as it relates to their illness and/or medical treatment.
Provides comprehensive psychosocial care, addressing the emotional, social, and developmental needs of patients and families.
Participates in establishing, maintaining, and improving patient's health care goals through patient assessment, planning and implementation of child life interventions and evaluation of patient outcomes
Documents clinical treatment notes in patients' chart
Conducts child life assessments, normalizes the hospital environment for patients and families, and promotes/provides developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Develops and maintains effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team to meet care plan goals, ensuring family-centered care. Provides interdisciplinary team member education on utilization of services and developmentally appropriate care.
Promote appropriate growth, development, and family relationships for patients by providing environmental stimuli, structured activities, diversional play, unstructured play situations, and schedules based on individual needs
Participates in professional development units to maintain ACLP certification
Maintain appropriate infection control protocols for all interactions with patients and families
Monitor use and condition of supplies, equipment and materials, including donated and purchased items, to ensure safety
Required Skills/Abilities Certification as a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) through the Child Life Certifying Committee (CLCC); if the candidate meets all of the eligibility requirements for the CCLS credential, except for the Certification Exam, they must successfully complete the exam and attain certification within 6 months of hire.
Completion of a Child Life Internship (minimum 480 hours) under the direct supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist
Bachelor's Degree in child life, child development, or closely related discipline required. Masters Preferred.
BLS certification required

Working Conditions: Inside Working Position: Sitting, Standing, and Walking Physical Demands: Medium Physical Requirements: Lifting/Carrying, Pushing/Pulling, and Stooping/Kneeling/Bending Lifting or carrying weight of between 11 - 24 lbs Sensory/Communicative activities essential to the performance of this position: Hearing, Seeing, and Speaking This position will be exposed to Inside Environments, Bloodborne pathogens, and Loud Noise
