Family Advocates
Make a lasting impact in a child’s life by becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), also known as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteer. CASA/GALs are trained community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children involved in child protection court cases. You don’t need a legal background-just a big heart and a willingness to help!
We are seeking volunteers who reside in Ada, Elmore, Boise, and Valley counties, as these are the counties our program serves.
What You'll Do:
Visit the child at least once a month
to build trust and stay informed about their situation Write court reports
based on your independent investigation, observations and conversations, helping the judge make informed decisions about the child’s future Attend court hearings
and stay in communication with professionals and caregivers Stay involved for the life of the case , which typically lasts 1.5 to 2 years Be a consistent presence -you may be the one stable adult in a child’s life during a difficult time Requirements to Volunteer: Be 21 years or older Attend a Volunteer Information Hour Meeting Complete a volunteer application Interview with the CASA trainer Pass a criminal history check Complete 30 hours of training Submit monthly case hours and miles Complete 12 hours of continuing education annually.
