8 AM to 5 PM Job Summary: We are seeking a
Transmission & Distribution Engineer
to support capital projects, substation protection, and grid reliability programs. This role involves
relay settings development, system modeling , and collaboration with utility stakeholders to meet
WECC and NERC PRC compliance . Ideal candidates bring technical depth in protective relaying, engineering studies, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Support DSP, TSP, SUB IR, DSERP, and other capital programs. Gather and evaluate line, substation, transformer, and generator data. Model transmission/distribution systems in tools like
CAPE
and perform short-circuit and protection coordination studies. Issue relay settings (Client, SEL, Electromagnetic) via ASPEN relay database and assist field technicians during testing/commissioning. Perform system studies and define protection requirements. Travel to project sites as needed for job walks or test support. QA review of protection deliverables including relay settings, calculations, and logic. Review and sign off on one-line and logic diagrams. Collaborate with substation, project, field, and apparatus engineers on substation expansion and automation projects. Required Experience:
10+ years in T&D or substation protection engineering. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Led short-circuit studies and designed protection schemes for 44-100kV systems. Developed relay settings across 12kV-765kV systems. Familiar with Client, ABB, and SEL relays. Experience with CAPE, ASPEN, CYME, and Blue Beam. Knowledge of system operations, wiring standards, and symmetrical component analysis. Expertise in Client EnerVista UR Setup, SEL AcSELerator, and URPC software. Nice-to-Have Experience:
Relay settings and logic programming for 220/115 kV systems. Automation upgrades in sub-transmission substations. Protection schemes for transformers, capacitor/reactor banks, and distribution lines. Customer-focused communication skills and collaborative engineering experience. Experience with Microsoft Office, Visio, Access, and Project. Required Skills:
Relay settings development and QA Short-circuit and coordination studies Protective relay logic design Preferred Skills:
PRC 23/26/27 compliance knowledge Experience with ASPEN relay database Knowledge of one-line and AC/DC logic diagrams Field support for in-service relay implementation Familiarity with transmission/substation automation Additional Skills:
Fault current analysis Test technician support Review of protection drawings Digital logic (latches, gates, etc.) Substation expansion coordination AC/DC wiring standards Benefits:
