Wellness Coordinator
Supervised by: Director of Campus Wellness and Therapy
Purpose of the Position
Manage the wellness center operation including facilities, personnel, programs and budget; provide a comprehensive wellness program that is holistic in nature and addresses the six dimensions of wellness.
Responsibilities
• Conduct resident wellness assessments for appropriate placement in classes and individualized fitness protocols.
• Periodically measure resident progress relevant to wellness programming.
• Develop, schedule and facilitate a variety of group wellness classes consistent with ongoing wellness assessments including both land and water based programs.
• Develop individual fitness plans for residents including ongoing personal training opportunities.
• Provide educational and motivational presentations to resident, community and employee groups.
• Recruit, engage and supervise contractual employees as needed, including but not limited to yoga and line dancing.
• Provide overall campus wellness coordination while promoting unity, efficiency and maximum opportunity.
• Consult and coordinate with community physicians and other medical professionals as necessary to develop resident wellness programming.
• Actively recruit residents to wellness programs.
• Provide resident orientation to wellness classes, programs and equipment.
• Promote employee wellness.
• Provide oversight and make necessary requests to preserve and maintain the appearance and function of the Wellness Center.
• Develop and promote fee for service community wellness classes. i.e. Rock Steady Boxing and Community Participants.
• Actively promote the dimensions of wellness.
• Develop and facilitate aquatic classes.
• Write wellness articles for Friendship Haven and community publications as requested.
• Develop budgets for wellness programs and maintain fiscal accountability.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of aging issues and Alzheimer's and other dementia-related illnesses.
• Support the mission, vision and values of Friendship Haven.
• Abide by Friendship Haven Standards of Personal Performance and Code of Ethics.
• Ability to work effectively with co-workers in a team environment.
• Proficiency in writing and public speaking.
• Proficiency in computer usage and related applications.
• Ability to self-initiate with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Ability to deliver excellent customer service and public relations.
Preferred Requirements
• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field, preferred.
• Certification: All wellness certifications welcome along with the ability to obtain certifications required by Friendship Haven.
• Experience: In a retirement community involving wellness programming and personal training, preferred.
Physical Demands
• Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during work hours.
• Willing to work beyond normal working hours, and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
• Ability to demonstrate and participate in exercises being taught.
Mental Demands
• Subject to frequent interruptions.
• May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, families and visitors.
• Required to manage multiple tasks.
