The Opportunity CSR seeks a visionary and collaborative Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to lead the organization's human capital development strategy during a period of strategic growth and transformation. The CHRO will serve as a key member of the executive team, responsible for designing, aligning and overseeing implementation of strengthened HR systems and best practices, consistent with CSR's mission, values, and expansion goals. This leader will build infrastructure, guide culture, and develop talent across a diverse and dedicated workforce.Key Responsibilities include:Develop and implement a people strategy aligned with the organization's mission and growth.Partner with leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and succession. Lead recruitment, retention, and professional development to build leadership capacity and staff growth.Cultivate and support the multicultural workforce and leadership that reflects the communities we serve, across all HR practices and organizational culture.Oversee HR operations, policies, compliance, compensation, and benefits. The CHRO will embody CSR's mission to bring peace of mind to children and families across Massachusetts. The CHRO must demonstrate a deep understanding of the systemic barriers faced by vulnerable communities and a passion for equity, empowerment, and healing. This leader will ensure that HR practices reflect CSR's values of trust, respect, and resilience, and will help build a workforce that mirrors the communities CSR serves. Strategic Human Resources Leader The CHRO will be a proven executive leader overseeing a five-person HR team in a complex, mission-driven environment. As part of the executive team, they will champion HR as a strategic partner in shaping culture, supporting growth, and advancing CSR's long-term goals. A resource and motivator to peers and leaders across the organization, the CHRO will blend best practices with CSR's unique culture to design tailored solutions. In partnership with the Leadership Team, they will also launch and lead a comprehensive employee retention strategy focused on professional development, career advancement, and well-being. Operational Excellence This HR leader will not only operate as a high level executive but will also bring operational excellence, with hands-on expertise in optimizing HR systems, streamlining processes, and leveraging technology to increase efficiency, transparency, and cost-effectiveness across a geographically dispersed organization. This leader will have hands-on experience developing HR systems and can bridge the gap between strategy and practical implementation within a diverse and busy organization working across numerous professions, service categories, roles and workplace environments. They will also bring a strong awareness of how to mitigate risk and potential liability. Culture Builder and Empathetic Leader The CHRO will lead change-management initiatives with emotional intelligence, humility, and a collaborative spirit. They will foster a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and performance accountability, ensuring that staff at all levels are supported, empowered, and aligned with CSR's mission. This leader will build trust across the organization and guide teams through transformation with clarity and compassion.The ideal candidate will bring:
8-10 years of HR leadership experience, with a track record of building or transforming HR functions. Expertise in talent management, organizational design, and employee engagement. Strong knowledge of HR operations, compliance, and best practices. Experience advancing engagement and inclusion. Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and change management skills. A mission-driven mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to build systems from the ground up. SHRM Human Resources certification or equivalent. Compensation and Benefits The starting compensation for this position begins at $160,000 based on experience and ability to have a broad impact early and can range to $180,000.CSR offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes four weeks of paid vacation annually, 12 sick days annually, 13 paid holidays annually, Harvard Pilgram medical insurance, dental and vision, health flexible spending account (FSA), life insurance and the option to participate in the retirement savings plan (401k).
