As a

Field Testing Specialist

, you will be a key contributor for a variety of activities at the

Champaign, IL

Research Center. You will play a key role in supporting all projects at the research center through activities including experiment planning, data collection and analysis, and field operations including planting, spraying, UAS operations, pollinating, and harvest.

What You’ll Do:

Operate and troubleshoot agricultural research equipment. This includes sprayers, tractors, planters, combines and forklifts.

Assist with research center activities, which may include: experiment planning, location mapping, seed treating, shipping, sorting, inventory, UAS activities, data collection, pollinating and leading field crews.

Collaborate with local and departmental staff to follow protocols for the timely collection of data. Be able to summarize results, noting any problem areas during data collection, and recommend actions to be taken.

Participate as a member of various station committees and audits, administer center-wide safety programs and comply with all station and company policies.

What Skills You Need:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in agriculture/biological sciences with a minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience in agronomy, biology, plant breeding or a scientific-related field.

Technologically Savvy: Competency with standard Microsoft Office programs and capacity to learn new technologies and software.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with diverse groups of people.

Results Driven: Demonstrated problem solving skills, strategic analysis, and communication skills. Self-motivated and ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and problem solving. Detail-oriented, strong time management and organizational skills.

Safety Oriented: Follow all safety policies and procedures and communicate any changes to the team.

Licenses: A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain pesticide license.

What Makes You Stand Out:

Strong Agricultural Background: General knowledge of agronomy and crop production. Equipment experience is beneficial.

Strong Research Background: Knowledge of agricultural research and what is involved in producing high quality research plots.

Ability to work extended days and weekends at critical times of the season. Some overnight stays during peak times may be required.

Ability to obtain FAA Part 107 drone license.

Will be required to do physical lifting and work outdoors for extended periods of time in a hot climate with varying ergonomic environments. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.

The salary range for this position is $67,680.00 to $71,440.00.

This reflects a reasonable estimate of the targeted base salary for this role. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus. Based on factors such as geographic location and candidate qualifications, actual base pay is determined when an employment offer is made.
