The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Our Child Life Specialists work collaboratively to promote optimal development and prevent psychological trauma in hospitalized children, adolescents, and children of adult patients. By providing comprehensive programming and interventions, our specialists proactively engage our most vulnerable patients to provide connection and support. We view our specialists as a critical component of the care plan and recognize the incredibly positive impact they have on the journey and outcomes of our patients and their families. As a Child Life Specialist, a typical day might include the following: Developing a new program to provide services to children of adult critical care patients Leveraging developmentally appropriate methods in preparing children and their families for diagnostic and treatment procedures Utilizing emotional support and stress reduction techniques to facilitate adaptive coping Partnering with our patients and their family members in the development and improvement of programs, policies and processes that shape patient, family, and staff experiences across the organization Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to provide consultation regarding the developmental status and individual needs of children to promote adaptation to treatment Supporting educational programs and lectures to facilitate child life healthcare initiatives This role might be for you if: You are passionate about creating and delivering a differentiated healthcare experience for children and adolescents You keep yourself current in the field of child life by reading professional journals, attending lectures, and participating in relevant professional organizations You set a high bar for yourself and others to maintain a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment for your patients and their families You recognize and respect the impact that you have on your patients' healthcare journey and how their families engage in their treatment plan You believe that true healing is optimized and strengthened through kindness and empathy To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in child life, child development, education, or a related field. A Masters degree in a related field is preferred. Previous Child Life internship experience and/or professional experience as a Child Life Specialist is required. While a Child Life certification is preferred, you will be required to obtain this certification within one year of employment and maintain it throughout your employment in this role.
