Mechanical/ Corrosion Engineer Formosa Plastics, Baton Rouge, LA 70805 Full Time Job Description: Conduct corrosion research for pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks based on relevant data to develop and update corrosion control documents. This includes performing inspection and maintenance audits, conducting risk-based inspection (RBI) assessments, and analyzing the root causes of leakage or volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Provide process safety management (PSM) operation and process corrosion problem analysis and improvement. Perform corrosion or material of construction (MOC) failure analysis and evaluation to prevent corrosion-related leakage and accidents. Provide engineering principles, expertise, and technical assistance to the mechanical maintenance supervisor. Major Areas of Accountability: 1. Ensure proper execution of maintenance policies and procedures of FPC. 2. Identify, plan, and coordinate training needs. 3. Prepare and submit a yearly Value Creation work plan to the department manager by the end of August, identifying at least five improvement projects for the upcoming year. 4. Provide coverage for the department manager, supervisor, and unit engineer during absences, supplying necessary information and documentation as directed. 5. Offer administrative assistance to supervisors and unit personnel, providing technical, material, and management support. MTC unit engineers will also develop a monthly management report. 6. Collect design, process, inspection, and repair data for pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks. 7. Conduct corrosion research, including evaluating internal/external corrosion rates, mechanisms, environmental cracks, and other damage mechanisms. 8. Develop and maintain Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs). 9. Perform damage mechanism assessments for inspection, maintenance, and audit operations. 10. Participate in RBI assessments, including damage mechanism identification, systemization for Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and circuitization for Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs). 11. Conduct cause/root cause analysis of leakage and VOC escapes, based on damage mechanism research, and propose improvement suggestions. 12. Review and audit PSM operations and corrosion issues, such as Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and accident investigation. 13. Analyze process corrosion problems and cracks in the plant, developing improvement suggestions. Technical Skills Required to Perform This Job: 1. Strong analytical and communication skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Capable of writing clear reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 2. Advanced mathematical skills: Possesses college-level mathematical proficiency for mechanical engineering data handling and calculations. 3. Problem-solving aptitude: Able to solve practical problems and manage complex variables in situations with limited standardization. 4. Instructional interpretation: Skilled at interpreting a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats. 5. Proficient computer skills: Capable of utilizing computer software and applications necessary for engineering functions. 6. Knowledge of industry standards: Has a working knowledge of applicable regulations and industry standards and practices, including ASME, API, NACE, ASTM, and ANSI. 7. Certification requirements: Must either hold, or be able to obtain, API 510, 570, 571, and 653 certifications within five years. 8. Interpersonal skills: Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 9. Commitment to continuous learning: Demonstrates a drive and willingness to continuously learn and improve. Education/ Experience Requirement: BS or higher degree in materials science and engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related majors. Related research background and/or chemical plant experience is preferred but not required. Other Requirements (Physical/Mental Demand, Schedule/Hours, Travel): 1. Flexibility: The role requires a flexible schedule, including the ability to work scheduled or unscheduled overtime, and travel for training and work-related commitments. 3. Language: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese are required. Compensation: Commensurate with background and experience.
