POSITION TITLE:

Bus Monitor

EXEMPTION STATUS:

REPORTS TO:

Transportation Department

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

9 months; 2025-2026 school year

HOURLY SALARY RANGE:

Minimum $11.80, Midpoint $14.75, Maximum $17.70

Primary Purpose:

Provide services to students with disabilities, including boarding, riding and departing the bus or vehicle. Assist the bus driver in ensuring the safe and orderly transportation of students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification High School Diploma or GED, preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment Ability to work well with children with disabilities

Experience:

Experience working with children, preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Student Management Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs and ensure students are safely secured in bus or vehicle. Supervise students as they board and depart the bus, cross the street, and arrive at their destination. Escort students to the door of their home and into school facilities, as needed. Assist in ensuring students arrive at the classroom, gym, cafeteria or destination, as needed. Ensure that all students are off the bus at the end of the route or trip. Learn and adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, behavioral and emotional need. Manage student behavior, report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator, and communicate with teachers and parents daily regarding student needs and behavior. Routes and Schedules

Assist the bus driver by maintaining familiarity with all routes to and from campuses. Maintain an updated route schedule.Work irregular hours as needed. Safety

Safely operate wheelchair lift, ramp, adaptive and other equipment according to established safety procedures. Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, positioning, and securing students. Supervise students' use of seat belts, harnesses, and car seats. Follow emergency procedures and help the bus driver administer first aid when necessary. Assist the bus driver in maintaining a clean and safe bus or vehicle. Communication

Assist the bus driver in operating two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office. Foster positive school-community relations and employee relations. Professional Growth and Development

Maintain familiarity with and follow procedures established by the transportation and special education departments. Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and special events as assigned. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
