This posting is for a Bus Monitor on the Special Education Route. It is anticipated to be 5.25 hours per day with the anticipated schedule of 6:05am-8:45am / 1:55pm to 4:30pm.

In-District applicants, who are current members of the PSE bargaining group, should apply by 3 p.m. August 26, 2025, and will receive first consideration. Rate of pay based on experience and the PSE Salary Schedule.

Bus monitors work alongside bus drivers to manage student behavior, maintain order, and assist with loading and unloading buses.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Essential Job Functions:

Assists with loading and unloading of ambulatory and non-ambulatory students with disabilities; ensures student safety while crossing street to and from bus. Assists students during transit to and from school and assists the bus driver in maintaining order; minimizes disruptive activity on the school bus for the purpose of ensuring student safety. Assesses potential emergency situations for the purpose of taking appropriate action to protect the well being of students. Attends to student needs en-route. Redirects student behavior when appropriate. Ensures that all students observe safety practices and regulations. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and administration. Administers first aid for the purpose of providing emergency care of students. Attends trainings as directed or appropriate. Other duties as assigned. Other Job Functions:

Assists other personnel as may be required in the completion of their work. Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. Operates district owned vans or cars in a safe manner in a variety of road, traffic and weather conditions when determined necessary. Transports students to and from special education programs as determined necessary by the Executive Director of Student Support or Designee. Performs other such tasks as assigned for the purpose of maintaining program consistency and efficiency. Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements-Qualifications • Experience Required: Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children. Experience with students with disabilities preferred.

Ability to speak Spanish Experience working with youth Experience working with diverse populations Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills to operate district owned vans and cars. Possess, or be eligible for a Red Cross or comparable first aid certificate.

Ability to:

sit for prolonged periods of time; lift and carry students with disabilities; read, write, speak and communicate effectively; deal with students in a warm, confident manner; understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; be fair and consistent when working with students; make common sense decisions in potentially critical situations; listen and communicate about student confidences; understand and communicate student bus safety rules and procedures; work collaboratively and coordinate with school district building administrative personnel; use safe lifting procedures; monitor and correct student behavior; apply effective discipline methods; maintain confidentiality; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.

Significant physical abilities include stooping/crouching/bending at the waist and knees, sitting for prolonged

periods of time, reading/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth

perception/accommodation/field of vision, physical dexterity, arm/leg movement, ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost paid by applicant) and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Form required; First Aid/CPR Certification and Hepatitis B Vaccine Series may be required.

Compensation and Benefits: Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the PSE Transportation Bargaining Agreement. See Article VIII Conditions of Work, Article IX Holidays, Article X Leaves, Article XIII Insurance and Retirement, XVI Transfer of Previous Experience, Article XVII Hourly Wage and Employee Compensation, Schedule A.
