The role of an interpreter varies from one situation to another. They will translate printed and verbal documents and materials (articles, lectures, sermons, brochures, promotional materials, training materials, books, etc.), ensure translated materials communicate the original intent of the message. Aid in all stages of communication. Interpreters are skilled individuals that understand and speak more than one language. They facilitate communication between parties who speak different languages. The interpreter does this by interpreting and re-communicating both verbal and written messages from one language into another. Responsibilities Provides verbal translation between parties when one communicates in English and the other in Spanish; attends meetings, conferences, seminars and special events in order to provide verbal translation. Listens and translates spoken word from English to Spanish and Spanish to English; ensures the original intent and tone of the communication is maintained and accurately translated between languages. Applies knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, culture, and beliefs to ensure that translated documents comply with the same at all times. Check original texts or confer with the leader(s) to ensure that the translation retains the content, meaning and feeling of the original message. Carefully convert data from the source language into the desired target language. Communicate spoken and written messages with efficiency and clarity.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. And One year translation experience, Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of Spanish both written and verbal. Knowledge of the Hispanic culture.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
