Position Overview Primary Function:
To assist with the assessment, evaluation, and management of patients who present for health care at UHS. This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided, and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion. Position Appointment Details: Temporary Full-Time, 10-month schedule Position Description Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides management of patients prior to provider evaluation and after provider visit Uses Electronic Medical Record for appointment scheduling, EHR documentation, and Secure Messaging. Provides nursing care consistent with UHS policies and procedures within scope of practice Monitors flow of patients and works collaboratively with clinicians and nursing staff to provide efficacy and efficiency of patient care Assists with dispensary inventory Performs in-house lab tests Prepares bloodwork and cultures for third-party labs Tracks lab results and resolves issues regarding problems receiving results Performs quality assurance testing on in-house lab equipment Assists providers with surgical and gynecological procedures Performs wound care and suture removal per UHS protocol Chaperones providers during sensitive examinations Performs injections and immunizations per protocol consistent with CDC guidelines Assists with referrals, x-rays, and hospital admissions Updates patient information handouts as needed Phone triage and follow up with patients as needed per protocol and provider instruction Walk-in triage if within scope of practice Keeps examination rooms stocked and clean Actively participates in maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Follows OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Standards and guidelines for compliance. Cleans and sterilizes via autoclave medical and surgical instruments Monitors expiration dates of medications, lab testing supplies, and immunizations kept in UHS Provides front office administrative support Maintains a level of knowledge and continuing education conducive to providing high quality patient care and as required for licensure Exhibits exceptional customer service, cultural competence, professionalism, and teamwork in all aspects of work Maintains licensure and certifications as required by the state of Tennessee

Daily: One to one contact with patients, taking messages, scheduling appointments, answering questions, providing information, collaborating with providers in patient care Internal: (Operations Committee, Faculty, Administrative department heads) Daily: taking messages, scheduling, communicating with the UHS team about patients' confidential medical information, appointments, answering questions, assisting with exams and procedures. External: (Visitors, parents, other institutions or companies, suppliers) Daily: taking messages, scheduling appointments, answering questions, providing information, interacting with staff, students, and parents Attributes of a Successful Candidate
Education: Medical Assistant
Experience:
Previous electronic medical record experience. Phlebotomy experience, Experience with immunization schedule (pediatric and adult), 2+ years of experience in a medical office setting. Job-Related Skills:
Phlebotomy, injections, nebulizer treatment administration, ear lavage, assist with surgical procedures, knowledge of immunization schedules and ability to work with providers to ensure proper patient care. Licenses/Certifications: CMA Supplemental Information
