Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Shop Welder to join our small, dynamic team in a fabrication shop specializing in structural and architectural steel. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of tasks, including fabricating parts, cutting, drilling, fitting, welding, and painting. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, proficiency in operating shop equipment, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication and Assembly: Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural and architectural steel components based on structural design drawings and specifications. Welding: Perform high-quality welding (Flux Core and/or MIG) on structural steel, architectural steel, and other metals, ensuring strong, precise welds that meet industry standards. Cutting and Drilling: Use tools such as plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, band saws, grinders, and drill presses to cut, shape, and prepare materials accurately. Painting and Finishing: Apply protective coatings, primers, and paint to finished products to ensure durability and aesthetic quality. Equipment Operation: Safely operate shop equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting devices, to move materials and components. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as welding helmets, gloves, and respirators, to maintain a safe work environment. Quality Control: Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project specifications. Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to complete projects efficiently, contributing to all aspects of the fabrication process as needed. Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure operational efficiency and safety. Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in welding and fabrication, with a focus on structural and architectural steel. Skills:

Proficient in Flux Core and/or MIG welding techniques. Ability to read and interpret structural design drawings, technical drawings, and weld symbols. Experience with cutting, drilling, and fitting steel components. Familiarity with painting and finishing processes for steel. Knowledge of safe operation of forklifts and other lifting equipment (forklift certification preferred).

Safety: Strong understanding of workplace safety standards, including proper use of PPE and adherence to OSHA regulations. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and fumes. Attributes: Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality craftsmanship. Certifications: Welding certifications (e.g., AWS D1.1) are a plus but not required. Work Environment

Location: Small fabrication shop environment. Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed to meet project deadlines. Conditions: Work involves exposure to welding fumes, loud noises, and heavy machinery. Proper PPE is required at all times. Benefits
