Clean Harbors is seeking a
Receiving Chemist I
to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for handling, coding, and processing lab packs and drums, performing initial sampling and analysis, and managing the proper shipping and disposal of waste materials. You will work closely with operations and logistics to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant material handling. Shift & Pay:
Night Shift - 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM |
$23.00-$29.00/hour
What It Takes to Work at Clean Harbors
Strong team orientation and communication skills
Ability to follow direction and adapt to changing business needs
Solid understanding of math, chemistry, and chemical testing
Organizational skills, initiative, and attention to detail
Receiving, Shipping, or Lab Pack experience preferred
Proficiency with Windows-based applications
Tested knowledge in at least two areas or advanced understanding in one:
Lab Pack Coding/Processing
Drum Receiving/Coding
Shipping of Waste Materials
Responsibilities
Lab Pack Coding/Processing:
Receive, code, consolidate, and repack lab packs; manage reactive materials; complete all related paperwork; operate lab pack systems
Drum Receiving/Coding:
Sample incoming drums, perform basic analysis, calibrate lab instruments, complete QA/QC documentation, weigh drums for billing, and move to proper storage
Waste Management & Shipping:
Ensure all drums are properly coded and routed; manage outbound shipments using least-cost routing and proper paperwork; coordinate with logistics to stage and prepare shipments
Inventory & Supply Management:
Assist with "Just in Time" inventory, maintain a safe work environment, and mentor/train other team members
Material Sampling & Reporting:
Open, sample, and record received materials per Waste Analysis Plan (WAP); forward samples for further lab analysis
Qualifications
2 years of college or specialized training in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
0-3 years of experience in a similar role
Required certifications: 24-hour OSHA, Forklift, RCRA/DOT training
Knowledge of facility-specific Waste Analysis Plan
