Under direct supervision, the medical assistant will assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. The role promotes efficient patient flow and patient care through exams and procedures. Additionally, the medical assistant will perform clinic support tasks, including clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining the physician’s schedule. This position requires adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.

Record patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.

Obtain all necessary patient records required by the physician before treatment or procedures.

Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.

Assist physicians with documentation.

Respond to patients’ calls as requested.

Perform administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception as requested by supervisor or physician.

Alert nurse/physician of abnormal vitals or any important information given by the patient.

Collect inbound meaningful use data, including flu documentation and initial height and weight.

Print the medication list for the patient to review.

Fill out disability forms.

Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, and order special tests such as Kras testing, Epidural Growth Factor Receptor, Myriad, and Paradigm.

Enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.

Essential Skills

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Minimum three years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.

Patient care and customer service skills.

Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.

Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Some state regulations may require specific certifications to work as a Medical Assistant.

Work Environment

The medical assistant will work in an oncology office from Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The role requires handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for extended periods is necessary, with occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are required. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brandywine, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
