Description

Summary : Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, The Major Gift Officer (MGO) will lead major donor fundraising to support Higher Achievement. Working closely with the Managing Director of Development, Executive Directors and the entire development team, the MGO will manage a portfolio of existing supporters as well as prospect and cultivate new donors passionate about Higher Achievement's mission. The MGO's work will be primarily externally facing, spending much of their time meeting with donors.

The MGO will play a critical role in supporting Higher Achievement's strategic plan and overall sustainability including helping to diversify its $6M in annual revenue by boosting support from high-net-worth individuals. To achieve this objective, the MGO will build a comprehensive major donor program that leverages networks of former and current donors, board members, mentors, alumni, and staff. Importantly, the MGO will work closely with the DCM Executive Director and the CEO to cultivate, steward, and upsell the many current and lapsed donors in the DC area, where Higher Achievement has operated for more than 50 years.

Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising & Donor Engagement Portfolio Management & Prospect Identification: Support raising Higher Achievement's annual fundraising target of $6M by stewarding a portfolio of major donors contributing $10,000+ in individual dollars in annual support Directly manage approximately 15-20 current donors and build a portfolio of roughly 30 new major donors, raising $300,000 in new revenue within the next two years, with growth goals in future years. Identify and research potential major donors (individuals & foundations) capable of making significant financial contributions. Strategic Planning:

Implement key strategies to broaden the base of new major donors and increase donor engagement through a variety of tactics including e-campaigns, giving circles, and events (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship). Initiate and analyze prospect research with a working knowledge of moves management and portfolio management Solicitation & Relationship Cultivation:

Conduct regular donor visits and host donors and prospects on Center tours, with thorough preparation in advance and follow-up communication. Coordinate and attend donor events (e.g. house parties) Prepare and present tailored proposals, reports, and other materials to support gift solicitations for general giving and endowment gifts. Donor Stewardship:

Oversee the development and moves management of a portfolio of individual and special event donors through quality, strategic contacts and face-to-face visits to identify, cultivate, solicit, and successfully close one-time and multi-year gifts Recognizing and thanking major donors and ensuring their ongoing engagement and satisfaction through tailored stewardship opportunities. Events & Campaigns:

Participate in or lead fundraising events and campaigns to engage donors and secure major gifts. Create planned giving program and ask strategies. Collaboration & Strategy

Fully support CEO major gifts portfolio and Emeritus Board/Board of Directors giving. Advise local Executive Directors (Baltimore, Richmond, Washington, DC) on major gift strategies. Partner with the CEO, MDOD, DC Executive Director and members of the Board executive committee to support the prospecting of new potential Board members and local DC advisory board members who enrich the fundraising capacity of the Board. Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE a plus, with 7+ years of professional fundraising experience, with a proven track record in securing major gifts ($10,000+). Proven experience: in nonprofit fundraising, with a demonstrated ability to secure significant gifts from individuals and corporations. Communication: Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively articulate the organization's mission and build relationships. Ability to build trust and long-term relationships with high-level donors and stakeholders. Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills to manage a portfolio of prospects and donors and meet fundraising goals. Strategic Thinking: The ability to develop and execute strategic fundraising plans. Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience using donor management software (e.g., Raiser's Edge). Soft Skills: A self-starter with a proactive, detail-oriented attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility: A willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel as needed to engage with donors and attend events. Preferred Attributes:

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Position offers a hybrid/remote work environment with the willingness and ability to do in-person meetings in DC, with the possibility of occasional travel to Baltimore and Richmond. Work is regularly performed in an office environment. The employee may spend long periods sitting, standing, and walking. Required to transfer from one part of the worksite to another and climb stairs. Regularly lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Regular use of computers, keyboard, telephone, and face-to-face communication in small and large group settings with adults; ability to communicate clearly and professionally in these situations. Visual, auditory, and physical ability to respond quickly to critical incidents involving students and act in an emergency. Compensation & Benefits:

Salary/Exempt $140,000 commensurate with experience.
