Director of Events Boston, MA Department:

Communication and Donor Engagement Schedule:

Full Time - Hybrid (regular in-office and on-site presence required) $120k - $135k

Position Summary Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, the Director of Events will lead the strategic planning and execution of high-impact, fundraising-focused events that engage donors and prospects. Partnering across Development teams and working closely with senior leaders, this individual will shape a high-performing events program that not only builds on past successes but also sets a vision for future growth.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, strong revenue driver, problem solver, and collaborative leader. This person will oversee a talented team of event specialists, direct cross-departmental collaboration, and ensure that every event maximizes donor engagement and supports organizational goals. Creativity, initiative, adaptability, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a strategic plan for fundraising events in collaboration with Major Gifts and Corporate Partnership teams to expand donor support, drive sponsorships, and engage boards and volunteers. Establish and maintain event metrics to track outcomes, inform future strategy, and maximize ROI. Oversee and cultivate a small portfolio of event donors, including solicitation and stewardship. Lead event committees and co-chairs, partnering with colleagues on goals for donor engagement and identification. Design and execute post-event evaluation systems to capture success and gather stakeholder feedback. Develop event strategy for organizational leaders to strengthen donor relationships through tailored engagement opportunities. Coach, mentor, and manage direct reports as well as consultants and contractors in event planning and execution. Oversee cultivation events and ensure flawless event execution, from registration through program delivery. Introduce fresh ideas and innovative approaches to expand the reach and impact of the events program. Contribute to broader organizational goals by leveraging events to grow philanthropic engagement and revenue. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. At least 10 years of nonprofit event management experience, including 8+ years in a leadership role overseeing teams and driving event revenue. Strong track record in fundraising event success. Experience with fundraising and event platforms (e.g., Raiser's Edge NXT, GiveSmart, Whova). Exceptional leadership, project management, and communication skills. Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Nonprofit fundraising experience within complex organizations such as healthcare or higher education strongly preferred.
