Buyer- MROI/Indirect Material/Capex (Industrial Solutions)
The Indirect and Capex Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing procurement activities related to indirect goods and services, as well as capital expenditures (Capex) for the Industrial Solutions organization. This role plays a critical part in optimizing cost and supporting cost reduction target, ensuring supplier performance like on time delivery and quality, and supporting strategic investment initiatives across the organization. This role will require working closely with internal stakeholders, including Finance, Engineering, Facilities, and Operations. The buyer ensures that procurement decisions align with budgetary goals, compliance standards, and long-term business objectives. The ideal candidate combines analytical rigor with strong negotiation skills and a proactive approach to supplier relationship management. This position will begin out of the BorgWarner Arden, NC facility and will transition to another facility based in Western North Carolina, with a specific location to be finalized. Key Accountabilities: Develop and implement sourcing strategies for capital and indirect (MRO) spending to optimize cost, quality, and delivery. This includes leading the qualification & development of new suppliers and the exit of outgoing suppliers in coordination with the plant. Conduct RFQs, RFPs, and supplier negotiations to secure optimal pricing and terms Negotiate Capital, MRO, and service agreements and or contracts to achieve cost savings and mitigate risks Develop and execute plant cost savings initiatives & risk mitigation strategies on existing business to achieve annual savings budgets, utilize a total landed cost approach optimizing prices for new and existing business in the assigned commodities. Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the commodity perimeter. Tactics to include program bundling, dual sourcing, leveraging other programs activities, tariff avoidance, USMCA, duty mitigation, specification / tolerance / material changes, process optimization, VA&VE, logistics & packaging optimization, payment term improvement. Minimize collective risk through favorable raw material, currency adjustment mechanisms. Support digital procurement initiatives and e-sourcing tools Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships and alignment with business goals. Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions as needed. Become expert defined space, able to understand and communicate micro and macroeconomic influences and develop strategies to either mitigate or benefit. Manage the relationship with each supplier through regular business & roadmap reviews and disciplined contract management Able to construct complex excel models for estimating and simulating any business issues. Develop and report out on clear strategy for responsible commodities that support local targets with consideration for global strategies Key Competencies include: Strong interpersonal and self-motivational ability. Strategic thinking and decision-making. Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Drive for results, ensuring key timing milestones and priorities are met. Contract Negotiation. Familiarity with equipment specs, installation, and commissioning. Able to work in a fast-paced changing environment. Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree (Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related). Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) are a plus Minimum of 5 years' purchasing experience in sourcing or supply chain management, with a focus on indirect and capex. Good knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding, and cost breakdown. Previous experience in an industrial or automotive manufacturing environment is considered a plus. Must have strong communication skills (both written and verbal); good presentation skills; strong demonstrated negotiation skills; and can read and interpret drawings/blueprints.
