The City of Peoria's Water Services Department has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Inspector within the Environmental Resources Division. This position is part of the Program Enforcement Division, working with the Cross Connection team to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal regulations. Key Responsibilities: Conduct backflow inspections at commercial facilities to ensure proper installation and up to date code. Utilize database tracking software to monitor compliance and maintain accurate records. Test and repair City-owned backflows. Review plans for new or remodeled projects to ensure proper backflow protection. Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and Local regulations related to wastewater treatment and cross-connection control. Perform additional compliance-related tasks as assigned. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Experience working in a municipal or government setting. Experience conducting backflow inspections at commercial facilities, verifying the proper installation and operation of grease traps and interceptors. Strong customer service and communication skills to effectively engage with businesses and the public. Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local cross-connection regulations. One (1) Grade I ADEQ Wastewater Operator Certification and/or one (1) Grade I Water Operator Certification. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High school plus additional course work (equivalent to up to 1 year at a Community College or equivalent resulting in accumulation of similar knowledge and abilities). Experience: 1-year experience. Moderate previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions; can include relevant experience gained through formal internships and training programs. Physical Demands: Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort. Licenses and Certifications: Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification required within 6 months of hire. One (1) Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade I operator certification within one year of hire.
