We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Security Engineer with deep expertise in Web Application Firewall (WAF) to join our dynamic cybersecurity team. The ideal candidate will design, implement, and manage WAF solutions to secure our organization's current on premise environment and also be leading the cloud migration efforts. This role requires hands-on experience with WAF frameworks, strong knowledge of network security and cybersecurity principles, and a proactive approach to safeguarding enterprise applications and systems against evolving threats. MUFG is a global organization with growing cybersecurity needs and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to safeguard our digital infrastructure is a must. The ideal candidate will also have a proactive approach to identifying vulnerabilities, optimizing WAF configurations and applying best practices, and of course be responding to security incidents. Key Responsibilities:
Design, deploy, and manage WAF solutions for on-premise and cloud-based platforms (Imperva/Akamai) Develop and fine-tune WAF policies, rules, and signatures to mitigate threats such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and DDoS attacks Lead incident response efforts for web application and network attacks, including root cause analysis and remediation Monitor and analyze inbound web traffic to identify and respond to suspicious activities, ensuring real-time threat mitigation Collaborate with cross functional teams to integrate WAF solutions into CI/CD pipelines and application architectures and focus on maturing WAF program Perform regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration testing to identify gaps in WAF protection Maintain and optimize WAF configurations to balance security, performance, and user experience and strive for process optimization and automation Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices to enhance WAF strategies Document WAF infrastructure diagrams, configurations, policies, and incident reports to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements Mentor team members and provide guidance on WAF best practices and troubleshooting Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years of experience in cybersecurity with a focus on Web Application Firewalls 3+ years of hands-on experience managing both on-premise WAF solutions and cloud-based WAF platforms
Technical Skills:
Deep knowledge of web application vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques Strong experience with Linux CLI and proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for WAF rule creation and management Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their native security tools Strong networking fundamentals and familiarity with network protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, DNS) and web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, APIs) Experience with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk) for log analysis and monitoring Knowledge of DevOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, git) and CI/CD pipeline
Soft Skills:
Self-starter with ability to assess and manage multiple priorities Strong problem-solving and analytical skills and ability to keep composure under pressure Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
