Development and Validation Engineer Chevrolet Performance Parts

Overview
This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac, Michigan three-to-five times per week, at minimum. Chevrolet Performance Parts offers various Crate Engines, Crate Transmissions, Control Kits, and other propulsion performance upgrades to automotive and racing enthusiasts. The GM Motorsports Propulsion and Performance Parts Engineering team is responsible for cradle-to-grave product development of these products. The Development and Validation Engineer will lead engine testing activities in a world class test and development facility. This assignment involves planning and executing product development and validation procedures, developing new methodologies, creating and evaluating data, leading discussions for decision making, communicating results in formal and informal settings, and driving actions. This role will also lead some Design Release Engineering (DRE) activities when time permits. We are looking for a highly motivated engineer with a passion for performance engines, motorsports, the after-market industry, and the drive to succeed regardless of obstacles. Responsibilities
Lead various engine dyno testing procedures including Spin-Buck testing for valvetrain development, engine testing for calibration development, engine durability testing, combustion and air flow development, and power certification tests. Collaborate with DREs to ensure hardware availability and verify compatibility with dyno systems. Collaborate with Engine Build and Dyno Staging teams prior to testing and for post-test teardown and DRBTR. Work closely with Engine Calibration Engineers during dyno calibration development, validation testing, and support vehicle level calibration as needed by providing data and learnings from dyno testing. Prepare and present post-test technical reports. Review product design and manufacturing changes to develop risk-based development and validation plans. Collaborate with Technical Specialists and other Development Engineers from GM for knowledge sharing and capability growth for the group. Prioritize safety for every testing activity. Support Dyno Operations team for continuous development and capability growth. Effectively prioritize and execute multiple projects to achieve program milestones. Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products. When time permits, you will also be given ownership of some projects performing Design Release Engineering activities as follows: Lead engineering design and development related to performance upgrade recipes for crate IC engines. Guide the design of components and crate engine assemblies to meet performance, packaging, and cost objectives. Prepare presentations and technical reports, lead Product Development Team (PDT) meetings, and maintain project timelines. Use CAD VisMockUp software for design reviews. Prepare and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) including cost, coordinate with prototype facilities for initial engine builds, and coordinate with production manufacturing facilities. Perform engineering design evaluations and coordinate CAE analysis as needed. Coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program deliverables with excellence. Work closely with vehicle and calibration teams to support powertrain integration activities. Manage projects from initiation to completion in collaboration with Customer Care & Aftersales Program Management, Purchasing, and Supply Chain organizations. Support Supplier Quality Engineering to ensure high quality products, support PPAP activities, and lead DFMEA activities as needed. Support Chevrolet Performance Parts marketing shows and events as an engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) as needed. Support maintenance and updates to the Chevrolet Performance Parts catalog. Qualifications (Required)
BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. 5+ years of relevant experience. Experience in engine dyno-testing technology. Knowledge in engineering software and systems relevant to the job (CONCERTO, PUMA, AVL Dyno Testing software suit, INCA & MDA software). Previous experience with air flow testing, engine testing, and engine combustion system development projects preferred. Experience with engine fuel efficiency and thermodynamic concepts. Familiarity with engine modeling and data analysis tools. Understanding of engine/transmission engineering theory and principles of design. Willing and able to present information to leadership, colleagues, and customers. Excellent oral and written communication skills. High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others. Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. More than 7 years of engine design, development, release, or calibration experience. DFSS Black Belt certification. Other
