The Buyer Value Concepts manages opportunistic buying responsibility for a category of products; this includes creating product assortments, developing assortment and pricing strategies and advertising. This role will work with Omni buyers and planners to understand product lifecycles and transition strategies, partner with existing vendors and work to build additional vendor relationships on opportunistic buys to ensure product assortment supports strategic initiatives and financial goals. Job Duties & Responsibilities
Achieve business objectives by creating, driving and ensuring execution of the merchandising strategies in our Value Concept stores. Build, create & manage merchandise assortments, by category, through understanding life cycle and transition strategies from Omni team and through opportunistic purchases from existing and new brands that align with market and consumer trends. Assortment creation includes selecting and purchasing merchandise by considering cost structure, quality, source, timing, delivery and mix. Analyze category performance to ensure they maximize category profitability including turnover and gross profit by adjusting pricing and receipt flow strategies. Analyze economic, financial, market, competitive/noncompetitive and industry data to assess current business strategies or identify future business opportunities. This includes assessing regional assortment opportunities to ensure market relevance. Works closely with each member of their team to ensure appropriate development opportunities are happening including: feedback, stretch assignments, performance management and career development conversations. Interview candidates and make hiring decisions. Build and manage relationships with vendors and cross-functional teams. Leverage vendor relationships to gain knowledge and data as it pertains to product category. Proactively network with vendors regarding available merchandise. Utilize established relationship in product selection and pricing negotiations. Shop national and global Value Concept stores, as well as other comparative retail stores, to identify new trends and opportunities, evaluate merchandise mix, evaluate competition, and translate findings into executable product plans. Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree - Marketing, Merchandising or related field 7 - 10 years related experience, plus management experience, off price buying experience preferred
