About the position:
E Ink is seeking a creative hands-on scientist or engineer to design complex control schemes for cutting edge display products. The role requires experience with control systems, deep learning, and programming, with an ability to contextualize the impact of a low-level control scheme to display integration and end use by individual consumers.
In this position, you will design and qualify deep learning-based control schemes from a very early stage, develop and support them until in mass production as a part of a global team. You will design, investigate, and provide initial demos of products driven by your control schemes to demonstrate the viability of material exiting research and entering development. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team doing fundamental research in colloid science to improve and maintain the performance of the material as the product transitions into mass production. Finally, you will help deploy the methods you develop to a global team to run them as a part of mass production of new, exciting, and vibrantly colorful displays.
You’ll also join a thriving community of researchers and engineers advancing control schemes across E Ink’s product lines, while pushing the boundaries of how deep learning can be applied at E Ink.
Key responsibilities:
Develop advanced control schemes using deep learning and nonlinear optimization for electrophoretic displays
Create, refine, and deploy scalable software workflows for control design and integration by a large global team
Conduct experiments with prototype displays, electronics, and optical measurement equipment
Design and implement realistic use-case testing, including demos for customers and quantitative evaluation of prototype performance
Translate customer feedback into actionable insights for control algorithms and prototype improvements
Differentiate between physical hardware limitations and control scheme performance issues through simplified, quantitative tests
Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to a global, multidisciplinary team
Qualifications:
B.S. or M.S. with 2 years of industry experience or Ph.D.
Relevant fields of study include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
Strong programming skills, with demonstrated experience developing large-scale software used by others
More than 1 year of experience solving challenging nonlinear optimization problems
More than 1 year of experience with model-based control or design of a real-world system. It is ideal if the model were deep learning-based but it is not mandatory.
More than 1 year of experience with electronics hardware (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, cameras, Arduinos, DAQs, or other electronics)
Demonstrated ability to work independently with physical prototypes and perform holistic system testing
Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
Preferences:
More than 2 years of experience with deep learning model development
More than 2 years of experience with model predictive control using deep learned models
More than 2 years of experience in industry performing commercialization (not research and development)
Coursework and work experience relevant to bifurcation/catastrophe theory
Interest in visual art, human perception of , or display technology
Familiarity with display technologies or other electro-optical systems
Experience designing customer demos or product prototypes in a commercialization setting
Benefits:
Competitive total compensation package
Medical, dental and vision on 1st day
Company 401K match
20 PTO days
Generous sick leave policy
Casual day to day work environment
Hybrid/flexible work environment (for some positions)
