Senior-Level Role in Plant Instrumentation & Control Systems Design
Primary focus is boiling water reactor rod control system engineer. Responsible for supporting original equipment manufacturer (OEM) rod control systems in operating fleet, and design of rod control systems for new reactors. Scope includes: requirements definition design specifications development, test, and qualification plans field deployment of rod control systems Essential responsibilities include: Develop and maintain an understanding of rod control systems used in existing and new boiling water reactors (BWRs). Prepare and maintain system requirements specifications developed based on customer requirements, technical regulations and industry standards. Establish and maintain traceability of system requirements using requirements management tools. Prepare and maintain system design artifacts such as logic diagrams, input/output (I/O) lists, equipment and cabinet layout diagrams or drawings, system elementary drawings, hardware wiring/connection diagrams, bills of material, various plans and reports, etc. Prepare design documents and reports required under a regulatory compliant digital I&C and embedded systems and software development lifecycle process. Provide technical oversight, clarification, and interpretation of rod control system requirements to developers working on hardware and software design. Perform and document technology assessments, trade studies supporting selection of hardware and software technologies for incorporation into rod control systems. Perform and document feasibility studies describing rod control system conceptual architectures and functional descriptions. Lead and facilitate system design reviews. Prepare high-level software design documents describing software program architecture, inputs, transfer functions, algorithms, and outputs. Perform hands on development, configuration and integration of prototype hardware and software for programmable logic controllers, industrial PC's, and human-machine interfaces. Develop prototype system software using object-oriented programming (C/C++), PLC ladder logic, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) tools to support system proof of concept testing. Configure signal conditioning electronics, motor controllers, motors, and network components. Prepare proof-of-concept test procedures using system requirements and functional description. Perform and document results of system proof-of-concept testing. Develop and configure test equipment and simulators for software development and testing. Maintain environmental, health and safety qualifications needed to perform laboratory work. Support on-site system installation, acceptance, commissioning, and start-up testing. Prepare and deliver system training materials. Prepare system operation and maintenance documentation. Provide technical support to aid customers in troubleshooting rod control system failures. Support identification, assessment, resolution, and corrective/preventive actions needed to address nonconformances and conditions adverse to quality. Prepare work plans, process documents, standard work deliverables templates, schedules, status reports, and cost estimates. Ensure compliance with GEH procedures/processes, nuclear regulations, applicable industry standards, and customer requirements. Support simplification, process improvement, and cost-out initiatives. Required qualifications include: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent 4-year technical degree. 1 year experience with productivity software [i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio]. 10 years of experience with "from scratch" system and software design, configuration, analysis, testing, and modeling related to:
Distributed Control Systems (DCS) OR Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) OR Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
4 years of experience designing human machine interface screens or graphical user interfaces. 4 years of experience working with motor positioning/servo systems using closed loop control. 4 years of experience developing software supporting serial and Ethernet data communications. 4 years of experience with configuration and operation of networking components. 7 years of experience working under a structured systems and software development lifecycle process including use of industry standards, design practices, and guides for software development and testing. Eligibility requirements include: Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required. This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government. Prior nuclear power plant systems or operator training including reactor theory.
