Custodian - PT Casual work as needed

Department: Enterprise Services

Reports to: Manager, Facility Services

Job Location: Chisago County Government Center, Center City, MN

Position Objective Performs work monitoring, cleaning, and conducting general maintenance on county buildings and grounds, cleaning, sanitizing, and stocking restrooms, vacuuming carpets and mopping floors, washing windows, assisting with seasonal snow and ice removal, completing reports, and related work. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Manager, Facility Services. Essential Functions To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Changes light bulbs. • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, and steam clean, strips, waxes, polishes and buffs floors, carpets, furniture and other related items. • Dumps as cans and garbage and relines cans with liners. • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc. • Washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork. • Cleans rain gutters and sidewalks. • Picks up litter from around buildings and grounds. • Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. • Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition. • Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed. • Keeps records of work completed. • Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance. • Keeps sidewalks, steps, exit areas, ramps and door areas free of ice and snow. • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance. • Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction. • Ability to establish an effective working relationship with co-workers and employees. • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precaution. • Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.

Desired Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED and minimal experience, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.

Special Qualifications Valid driver's license in the State of Minnesota.

Tools and Equipment Used Floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, washers, vacuum, mop, broom, dusting equipment and power tools, county vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or air borne particles, and toxic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet during indoor night shift operations.
