JOB DESCRIPTION
Construct, maintain, and repair electrical transmission and distribution substations. Familiar with and capable of installing or repairing all components of a high voltage substation inclusive of: below grade and above grade grounding, conduit, duct bank, cable trench, foundations, steel erection, breakers, instrument transformers, surge arresters, disconnect switches, capacitor banks, station service transformer, control cable, bus and jumpers, and final rock surfacing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the construction high voltage substations.
Be able to proficiently operate equipment such as a skid steer, mini excavator, back hoe, man lift, trencher, and forklift.
Proficient use of all required hand tools.
Hand dig ditches and holes.
Determine the appropriate rigging for, properly rig, and install high voltage substation equipment.
Install and remove personal protective grounding as necessary to complete work.
Install all related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
Knowledge and understanding of the company safety policies and procedures.
Follow safety procedures and report violations.
Knowledge of industry standard work practices.
Knowledge of industry, company, and client quality standards
Participate in daily pre-job briefings and provide input to mitigate or eliminate safety hazards.
Maintain an organized and clean job site including work areas, tool trailers, storage facilities, and office facilities.
Provide on-the-job training to those individuals you work with.
Read and comprehend complete set of substation drawings and specifications.
Comply with company and client policies.
Travel out of town to remote jobsites as required by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
3 years of working experience as a substation helper or apprentice.
Knowledge of high voltage substation industry standards.
Knowledge and experience in all aspects of substation construction as outlined in the job description.
Capable to receive and follow verbal directions.
Capable of working well with others as a team.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Class A Driver's License
Self-motivating with eagerness to grow.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Certified Truck Crane or Rough Terrain Crane Operator
WORK CONDITIONS
Required to stand, kneel, bend, stoop, walk, push, pull, and complete repetitive motions. Capable to routinely lift objects up to 25 pounds in weight and infrequently lift objects up to 50 pounds in weight. Full range of motion required as well as finger dexterity.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Typical construction work site environment that includes being exposed to extreme weather conditions of heat or cold (above 90 degrees and below 32 degrees), inclement weather, distracting and uncomfortable noise conditions, electrical hazards, and poor lighting conditions.
